Where does money come from??

Hey, its time to put some intelectual content in here!

(ok, maybe that was a bad first sentence - but you reading this tells me, that I could not scare everyone away ;)

Anyway - In this current crisis, it seems like no money is available anymore. But, where did all the money, from the once flurishing economy, go? Can it actually be, that money just disappears into thin air? You read about the stock markets, where billions are "destroyed" every day - but can money be "destroyed"?

If someone sells something, the money just goes somewhere else, right? Isn't it like there is certain amount of money, and it just can switch forms, just like energy can not be destroyed, but just can change form?

To answer this question, one has to know, what money actually is? I found the following video, which gives a somewhat shocking answer to these questions. I strongly recomend everybody to see it, even if it is quite long - its worth it!

Why are Banks allowed to create money, and I am not? What gives them more right than me?

Interest seem to be the reason why this world system is lost in this growth-paradigm! Do people realy think, that this could go on forever? That you can only grow, and grow, and grow, and grow? Well, thats what mass-media and politics want to make us think. Ever asked yourself, why "stagnation" is so heavyly loaded with negativ connotations?
We are working very efficiently on destroying our own earth. And the current monetary systems plays a big part in that. We are destroying the earth, where we and our children are supposed to live. With what right???

Man, this really makes me angry! But what I really would be interested in, is if this ongoing crisis is serious enough, to stimulate some serious change. And Im not talking about cosmetic "adjustments" to get the economy going/growing(!) again, Im talking about some serious effort to escape the growth cycle towards a economically, environmentally and socially more sustainable solution.

without having watched the video yet, i wonder if you've watched the movie Zeitgeist (zeitgeistmovie.com)? quite popular and available free of charge online. it's got three parts, the first about religion; the second about precisely your concern, the monetary system; and a last one about worldpolitics with a selection of related semptember-US-conspiracy theories. i believe you could find just the second part and watch it seperatly if your time is tight. i found all three interesting.

i feel your anger. i know what you mean.
